Divine was born Harris Glen Milstead on October 19, 1945 in Towson, Maryland. Baltimore's most outrageous resident eventually became an international icon , A versatile character actor, nightclub singer, and international cult star as the always shocking and highly entertaining transvestite performer. Divine was The leading lady of John Waters' films. Divine starred in a number of films such as: Roman Candles (1966),Eat Your Makeup (1968) and Mondo Trasho (1969) Pink Flamingos(1972),Female Trouble(1975),Polyester(1981) and (as Rikki Lake's mother) in the superb movie Hairspray(1988)and many more.

Divine also had starring rolls in Broadway plays: Women behind bars(1976-77) and Neon women(1978)

Divine is also remembered as a major character in the documentary homage Divine trash (1988)

In 1988, Divine was chosen to portray the character of Uncle Otto on the new FOX prime-time series Married With Children. His dream was coming true, but in a bitter twist of irony, he died in his sleep the night before his first episode was taped. His personal manager found Divine dead in his hotel suite. This episode was dedicated to Harris Glen Milstead. Originally aired: Sunday May 1, 1988 on FOX





Her days as a disco diva gave her international status. Her records, many produced by the amazing Bobby Orlando. Were popular in the US, UK, Japan, France, Netherlands and Germany. Divine proformed live at Brandi's Resturant in Montebello CA and The Casa Camino Real in Los Angeles CA in the 80's. She would always bring in a large group of followers. In Loving Memory of Harris Glen Milstead "DIVINE"


Harris Glen Milstead Died on March 7th,1988 in Los Angeles, California at the age of 42 of complication of sleep apnea.

The fabulous drag queen DIVINE is buried at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Towson, Maryland., which was accompanied with a funeral procession that stopped traffic.

"Glenn was born before civil rights, gay rights, or women's rights...God doesn't want people created out of a Xerox machine...The tragedy is that Glenn was cut off right at the point of becoming who he really was, and the world will never see how that flower could have unfolded."
